Speech is a twenty-week elective offered during the second semester designed to introduce students to the basics of public speaking. Students gain experience in a variety of speech-delivering situations, including impromptu speeches, introductions, speeches from prepared notes and memorized speeches. During this elective, students will prepare eight formal speeches of a variety of types, such as personal, persuasive and demonstration speeches and panel discussions. For the final speech, which will also serve, as the final exam, each student will deliver a commencement speech. Students are also required to deliver morning announces.
