Services Available
Hunting
Fishing licenses
- License
year runs from October 1st thru September 30th
each year. New year’s licenses are available
for purchase beginning in Mid-August each year.
Deer Management Permits must be applied for by
October 1st annually, and are available beginning
in mid August. Hunters must show their driver's
license or past hunting license at time of purchase.
Landowners must present their property information
for a landowner permit.
Dog
licenses
-
NYS Department of Ag & Markets requires that
all dogs 4 months of age and older be licensed.
Tickets to appear in Town
Court can be issued
for harboring an unlicensed dog. Fees: Spayed
or Neutered (certificate from vet required) -
$6.25; Unspayed or unneutered - $14.25.
Proof of current rabies vaccination must be valid
for at least 30 days at time license is renewed
(certificate issued by vet) required for licensing.
Leash Law -; A leash law has been in effect
since 1988 – all dogs must be on a leash
or under their owner’s control at all times.
Contact the Town Clerk for a full copy of the
law. Tickets to appear in Court can be issued
for dogs running at large, etc.
Building
permits
- Permits are required for additions to existing
buildings, installations of manufactured homes,
renovations and any residential/commercial construction,
garages, pools, solid fuel burning devices, any
electrical or plumbing work. Stamped Architect/Engineer
drawings are required for residential construction
over 1500 square feet and any commercial construction.
Any non-residential construction under 140 square
feet does not require a permit. Contact:

Septic
system permits are issued by Schuyler
County Watershed Department, 607-535-2208, Rural
Urban
Center,
Montour
Falls.
Marriage
licenses - Cost
is $40.00; Birth Certificate; Valid ID (Driver’s
License, passport, etc.); Divorce papers required
if previously married; must show date and where
filed. Must be purchased a minimum of 24
hours in advance of ceremony and is valid for
60 days. Additional/Duplicate copies of
Marriage Certificates are available for $10.00
each.
Sign
permits - permits
are required for all off-premise signs.
Applications are available at the Town Hall.
Application must include a description and/or
picture of the sign; detailed description of placement;
written permission from landowner. All applications
are reviewed by the Town Board for approval
Notary
public -
available
during office hours at no charge.
Geneology
researches - written
request with fee required. Very little information
is available prior to 1884. Death Records
must be older than 50 years and Birth Records
must be older than 75 years per State Health Department
regulations. Cost for searches and/or certificates
as follows: 1-3 year search - $22.00; 4-10 year
search - $42.00; 11-20 year search 0- $62.00;
21-30 year search - $82.00.
Birth
and Death Records
- Births and Deaths that occur in the Town of
Hector (outside the Village of Burdett) are filed
with the Town Clerk/Registrar of Vital Statistics.
The first Birth Certificate is provided at no
charge – duplicate copies are $10.00 each.
Death Certificates are $10.00 each.
