Cub Scouts

Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting or Venturing program.
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.
Cub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys. Dens of Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third-graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders) usually meet weekly to do crafts and projects and work on their advancement through Cub ranks and Academics and Sports belt loops and pins.

For information on Cub Advancement, see our Advancement page

Once a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization. At Pack meetings, Cubs receive the advancement awards they've earned since the last meeting, and take part in ceremonies, activities and games.

The Pinewood Derby is a favorite activity for Cub Scouts

Cubs build and race their own Pinewood Derby cars

Cubs can also build and race boats in the Raingutter Regatta

Cub Scouts can attend a variety of camps and weekend events, usually with an adult partner. There are several Cub Adventure Weekends each year, in which the Cubs take part in games and activities on a fun theme. Every summer there are Cub Day Camps at a number of locations around the District and Council, and also overnight Resident Camps at Camp Barton on Cayuga Lake and Camp Tuscarora in Deposit.

See our District Scrapbook page to see pictures of the fun our Cubs had at Cub Weekends and Camps over the last few years.
